Tue, 26 October, 2021

On Wednesday 20 October 2021, the Program Teknikal Kompetensi Belia Asnaf sponsored by Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan (MAIWP) commenced at TWI Shah Alam facilities in Kuala Lumpur.

The event was initiated by a presentation delivered by Dietmar Kok the Deputy Regional Manager of TWI SEA in which he briefed the representatives of MAIWP about TWI’s previous successful upskilling programmes known as Zero to Hero and the career path of the students who attend the training. The session was followed by question and answer and discussions on the future job placement of the students participating in the sponsored training.

Following that, the head of MAIWP Baitulmal Division Manager, Ustaz Ahmad Talmizi Yahya together with MAIWP Labuan Islamic Affairs Officer, Mohd Syukur Norfini had a friendly meet and greet session with the students in which they gave words of inspiration to the students and encouraged them to work hard on making the best out of their studies at TWI and learning the skills that can transform their lives and future career.

Then the attendees were given a tour of TWI facilities and a demonstration of various NDT inspection and welding techniques that are being delivered at the training center. Students were familiarized with the environment they will be spending their time in for the next four months and were briefed on the curriculum they will be undertaking during this period.

The event ended with the exchange of MOU and souvenirs as well as a photoshoot session.

Over the years, TWI Malaysia has done several collaborations with the Malaysian government and private institutions to train and upskill local talents. The Program Teknikal Kompetensi Belia Asnaf is fully sponsored by Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan to train 17 students from Labuan and 3 students from Kuala Lumpur to go through welder training up to 3G position (SMAW, GMAW & GTAW), CSWIP Visual Welding Inspection, appreciation of basic NDT, as well as the Oil and Gas Safety Passport (OGSP) by NIOSH and the CIDB Green Card training courses during 4 months. All candidates attending the training will have guaranteed job placement upon completion of the program.

This programme is offered to Asnaf, B40 group income (eligible to receive Zakat aid collected from the Muslim community), and Tahfiz students to improve their standard of living through getting access to quality education.

MAIWP representatives expressed their appreciation to all zakat payers in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and Labuan who have made the financing of this project possible and helped to realize the dreams of Asnaf and underprivileged families in building a brighter future.
