Higher tax relief limit and budget for TVET in 2022

As Malaysia gets ready for 2022, the finance and education ministers announce the budget allocated to the strengthening of the TVET and the development of the local manpower to meet the industry’s labour demand.

Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) are identified under the Twelfth Malaysia Plan as a crucial component to meet labour demands from the industry.

The Higher education Ministry is allocated RM6.6 billion which is expected to improve the quality of education besides benefiting young graduates and the underprivileged.

At the same time, the tax relief limit is increased from RM1000 to RM2000 on fees paid for upskilling or self-enhancement courses that are recognised by the Department of Skills Development, Ministry of Human Resources.

Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz has highlighted the importance of investing in the development of TVET as one of the drivers of change in meeting the demands of employers in the industries better and Higher Education Minister, Dr. Noraini Ahmad said TVET would be strengthened with the RM6.6 billion funding in 2022.

Training courses offered at TWI are all categorized as technical and vocational training courses that can be claimed for tax relief. At the same time, TWI Malaysia is an HRD-Corp registered training provider. This allows HRD Corp registered employers to make claims by attending training courses conducted by TWI.

TWI Malaysia has had numerous successful collaborations with the Malaysian government and respective agencies as well as various CSR programs and it will continue contributing to the country’s TVET in 2022.
