The MAREWIND project consortium have been working hard since the project launch in December 2020 and have now reached their second milestone.
With the European Union committed to making Europe the first climate neutral continent by 2050, wind energy is set to play a major role.
MAREWIND is helping progress this goal by addressing the challenges of materials durability and maintenance for offshore wind structures in order to reduce costs and improve performance and reliability.
The project has already seen the development of an anticorrosion coating for metallic elements and has selected the wind turbine blade coating for trials.
In addition, a coating to prevent fouling has been developed for submerged parts of offshore structures.
Milestone two of the project also saw the design and optimisation of new ultra high performance reinforced and alkali-activated concrete materials.
With new technologies being further developed for modelling and the prediction of corrosion, the project consortium have released a new press release, below, offering a full update on how MAREWIND is establishing the technological base for competitive offshore wind farms that will allow this renewable energy resource to become the cheapest source of electricity in Europe.
