Experts from TWI, China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and Chongqing Science and Technology Bureau joined forces to organise a two-day seminar focusing on advanced materials, joining and manufacturing.
The event, which took place on 26th and 27th November 2019 at the Chong Qing Jin Jiang Oriental Hotel in Chongqing city, China, welcomed more than 200 attendees from TWI Member companies in China, welding industry leaders of both the private and governmental sectors as well as representatives from the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and Chongqing Science and Technology Bureau.
TWI’s Director of Industrial Members, Steve Shi initiated the conference by delivering the opening speech. He then briefed the audience on TWI’s recent discoveries and developments in laser processes as well as the current challenges in the offshore wind sector.
Chris Punshon from the Power, Equipment and Infrastructure section of TWI presented developments in friction stir processes, industrial development and applications of linear friction welding as well as industrial applications of electron beam processes for welding and additive manufacturing.
Lei Xu, TWI’s Senior Project Leader, delivered a talk on the latest developments in coating, repair and additive manufacturing using cold spray deposition, advanced joining technologies applications for light weighted automotive industry and intelligent automation of welding and additive manufacturing.
Last but not least, Makhzan Mirza, TWI China’s country manager, spoke about the extensive range of training and certification services from TWI available across China.
The event provided a conducive platform for the industry experts to hear about and exchange ideas about the latest innovations in the advanced materials, joining and manufacturing field.
