Now recruiting for engineering leadership and management masters course starting September 2020
The MSc in Engineering Leadership and Management is a flexible, part-time masters degree offered by the National Structural Integrity Research Centre (NSIRC) in Cambridge and awarded by Aston University (Birmingham). This gives the programme an ideal business case masters course for employees to improve their leadership skills while continuing to work full-time for their employer.
What is the aim of this leadership and management masters?
The aim of the course is to nurture future leaders of the engineering sector through the development of management and leadership knowledge, skills and behaviours. It focuses on decision making, strategic thinking and leading people, and covers essential project management and leadership theory, exploring this through an experiential learning approach within the context of an engineering business or function. Employees study in small groups led by industrially experienced teaching staff, and have the opportunity to learn and network with emerging talent from other organisations, and discuss industry issues, as well as apply their learning within the workplace.
The ‘how’ of leadership and learning by experience are emphasised, and the demand-led approach allows the content to be shaped according to both the employee and the employer's interests. Blended study methods include formal lectures, tutorials, interactive workshops and group discussions, and employees also spend additional ‘off the job’ time applying their new skills and knowledge within their workplace and studying independently. There is an extensive online library of content to support employees’ course work.

Masters Funding from the apprenticeship levy
The MSc programme can be funded from the apprenticeship levy so there are no tuition fees to pay. Employees complete assignments for each module within the programme and there are no exams to be taken. The final six months of the course involves undertaking a major project based on a current challenge in the employee’s workplace.
On successful completion, candidates will be awarded an MSc in Engineering Leadership and Management, following which they will undertake an external end point assessment to achieve a Level 7 Senior Leader Master’s Degree Apprenticeship as well.
