Smart coating system for wear and damage monitoring - FORGE

Webinars 15 February 2023

As part of the H2020-funded project ‘FORGE’, the present study aims to optimise process parameters for depositing compositionally complex alloy (CCA) + rare-earth powder on carbon steel substrates via two coating processes: cold spray and laser cladding. A design of experiment will be performed in order to optimise the microstructure of the smart coating system. The deposition process parameters will be adjusted in an attempt to minimise the presence of defects and increase the coating mechanical properties (e.g. resistance to wear and toughness). Moreover, the capability of the system to detect and monitor wear will be assessed by visual observation and spectrometric sensor measurements.

Dario Porchetta

Engineer - Detection Department
Tailorlux

Mr Dario Porchetta currently works as engineer in the detection department of Tailorlux, which he joined in 2018. He´s a master in biomedical engineering, with a focus on biomaterials, from the Aachen university of applied science and a bachelor in materials science from the Tor Vergata university in Rome. During his career he collaborated and managed multidisciplinary projects dealing with ceramic coatings, corrosion of non-ferrous metals, surface properties of materials and integration of materials into matrix carriers. He is currently focusing on materials for the circular economy, supply chain sustainability and recycling fields.
