Successful Delivery of First Online Live Class in Brunei

Thu, 08 April, 2021

TWI has a longstanding history of collaboration with Joffren Omar Co. Sdn. Bhd. Since 2008 and throughout the years, several candidates have undergone training and certification by TWI at Joffren Omar’s facilities in Seria, Brunei.

The travel restrictions following the outbreak of the Covid-19 interrupted the delivery of training and examinations in Brunei. However, through the introduction of online live courses and remote examination, Bruneian candidates can now attend the training and examination as per scheduled dates.

The first round of Welding Inspector online live classes were delivered by Hassan Kavarodi via Zoom over 6 days from 29 March until 3 April 2021. Twenty candidates from various backgrounds of welding, inspection and quality control attended the training and learned about the duties and responsibilities of a welding inspector, welding processes, typical weld defects, types of steel, heat treatment, and parent metal defects. Visual inspection, the testing of parent metals and welds, and destructive and non-destructive test techniques were also covered during the Welding Inspector training.

The training was well received by candidates and they were pleased with how the course was conducted.

Muhammad Harith Hamiezan Bin Mohd Mazlan, who has a diploma in Welding and Fabrication, has been working as NDT Inspector at PTAS Sdn Bhd for the past four years. He decided that it was time for him to attend the Welding Inspector course to upgrade and sharpen his knowledge, and he is grateful that TWI could deliver the course remotely in Brunei in collaboration with Joffren Omar;

“The CSWIP 3.1 course was informative and beneficial as it increased my knowledge and helped me develop my skills. Due to the Covid 19 pandemic the course was done online. Although it was a bit challenging at first, I managed to overcome the challenge and understand the way the instructor explained and taught me.”

Lecturer, Hassan found the delivery of the training very smooth and the candidates’ participation in the course satisfactory. His assistant, Pg Muhd Ariffaiz bin Pg Ismail, who is an experienced welder trainer and inspector at Joffren Omar, facilitated the practical training by giving in-person instructions to candidates and teaching them the proper techniques for conducting practical assessments of specimens using the welding gauge.

Candidates completed the examination, which was invigilated remotely from Kuala Lumpur, on 4 and 5 of April. To learn more about TWI’s training courses in Brunei and the South East Asian countries contact us at inquiry@twisea.com
