An article titled ‘Scaling Up Additive Manufacturing’ has been published in the Association of Industrial Laser Users’ (AILU) publication, ‘The Laser User.’
The article, written by TWI section manager Carl Hauser, appears in the latest issue of AILU’s members-only magazine (Issue 105 – Summer 2022), but you can also see it in full below.
Carl investigates how directed energy deposition (DED) additive manufacturing (AM) is showing itself to be a viable tool for manufacturing large parts and structures.
Offering an overview of TWI’s journey towards large-scale part production, the article highlights how we have been at the forefront of DED developments for nearly two decades, during which time we have seen the appetite for DED grow among our Industrial Members for both pre-existing and new designs.
Carl also provides an insight into the future trends for DED as it looks to increase its share in the metal AM market through its flexibility and capability to produce on a large scale.
As industry continues to provide new software, hardware and processes, TWI is supporting with training programmes, software and design rules, while assisting in industrially-driven projects to help develop DED maturity as an alternative manufacturing method for cast, forged and fabricated parts.
This is another example of our experts working at the forefront of innovative technologies for industry, and you can read the article in full by clicking the PDF link below…
