Yayasan Sime Darby Skill Enrichment Bursary award ceremony

Thu, 06 May, 2021

On Tuesday 27 April, the Yayasan Sime Darby Skill enrichment bursary award ceremony was held at TWI Malaysia in Shah Alam, Selangor.

The conferring of bursary certificates to the first batch of 50 Sime Darby-sponsored students began at 10 am with a prayer recital by candidate and former Tahfiz student, Abdul Wahid.

TWI’s regional manager, Ernesto Moskini gave a welcome speech to the participants and addressed the candidates’ career advancement and how, over the years, TWI has been committed to helping Malaysian youth change their lives by gaining valuable skills, backed up by globally recognised certification.

Next, Yayasan Sime Darby’s CEO, Dr. Hjh. Yatela Zainal Abidin took the stage and gave an inspiring speech to the sponsored candidates attending the event. She highlighted the value of the soft skills gained alongside the hands on training they will receive on welding and inspection, and reminded them of the extraordinary opportunity of receiving job placements after completing their 4 months of training, which is going to change not only their lives, but also their family’s socio-economic status.

Since 2011, Yayasan Sime Darby has sponsored more than 1000 underprivileged students under the YSD Skill Enrichment Programme to pursue technical and vocational training and education (TVET) with support from reliable education partners like TWI. This initiative is aligned with the YSD education objective to provide equal opportunities and quality education for all. This is also aligned with both the national TVET agenda and the UN sustainable development goals.

Following Dr. Hjh. Yatela Zainal Abidin’s speech, candidates were called on stage to receive their certificate of achievement.

The event ended with the attendees receiving a tour of TWI’s facilities and YSD candidates demonstrating the welding skills they have learnt during the programme.
